Coaching
Approach.
As athletes, we all engage with the physical aspect of the training. We understand that we need to put in the work to achieve our goals. But what does it mean to put in the work? What should a training plan look like? And how much training is enough to reap the rewards? Those are some of the questions I’ll help answer.
I’ll try to take some of the guess-work out of training and provide you with a custom training plan. A solid training structure is the foundation of each plan, but that’s just the start. Every athlete has their own lifestyle, physiology and psychology - which means we all react different to training, stress and recovery. That is why the training program should be flexible and will evolve based on your response to both workouts and life stressors.
We’ll think holistically. This means also looking at things like nutrition & fuelling, strength & mobility, recovery as well as developing a strong mind. I'll help you pinpoint the challenges you're facing to ensure you're ready on all fronts come race day.
You probably understand by now that the training plan is just a piece of the puzzle. Coaching really is a partnership based on trust and an honest coach-athlete relationship. It’s an open dialogue with communication and feedback as the key components to direct the training. Your feedback will allow me to adjust the plan as we progress through the training phases. One step at a time.
How it works.
The beginning of each collaboration starts with a free kick-off call to better understand the athlete's story, background, ambitions and goals as well as talking more in depth about my approach and philosophy. Together, we'll determine if and how we can start working together. In order to create training that is one-of-one for each athlete, coaching subscriptions are € 125 per month.
The training calendar
Every collaboration comes with access to Training Peaks where you can view your training calendar, individual workouts and feedback on training sessions.
We'll start by establishing the bigger picture in the annual training plan, which will then be translated into specific, periodised microcycles (months/weeks) tailored to your goals and events.
Communication
Open, direct and frequent communication is key in a coach-athlete relationship. Training Peaks will be our main communication tool.
We’ll schedule frequent calls to go through the training plan and answer your questions.
I'm available anytime to help you deal with any unforeseen circumstances and provide whatever help you might need.
Analysis and feedback
Your training sessions will be analysed on a daily basis, discussed in person and adjusted along the way.
That said, it’s tempting to overly rely on data and loose touch of how we actually feel. Tuning into your own body and following its intuition can be both refreshing and effective in training. This will be considered equally.
Training principles.
-
The individual nature of the athlete is at the cornerstone of my approach and translated into an ever evolving training plan.
Adjusting the plan is a natural progression of the training. Finding a rhythm that you enjoy is a key aspect in the set up of the collaboration. -
The set up of the training program starts from a scientific and evidence-based place and will be tweaked and optimised based on your subjective feedback.
Together, we will analyse both numbers and your sensations to determine the training direction. -
To maximise your potential, improving your physical capabilities go hand in hand with developing a strong mind.
By identifying and addressing the challenges you may run into come race day, we'll make sure you can tow the start line ready and worry free.
-
Understanding why you train and how it makes you feel can bring new depth and meaning to it, as well as a greater awareness of where it can take you and what you’re able to achieve.
Together, we will create a plan that aligns your motivations and ambitions with your lifestyle. Training should be fun, so you can fully enjoy the process!
